The French have a word for it - DEBACLE, Mar 22, 2011 |
| reviewer: Tynan manque from London |
| Take out the wonderful Joanna Riding from this car-crash and you have a lot of bits of ideas hoping to come together. My pal and I were first bored stiff, then as one of your other correspondents mentioned, it is so bad that you actually get the giggles. We feel genuinely sorry for all those caught up in this mess. I'd feel angry if I had paid 60 quid for this. As for the other "positive" reviews, they either don't get out much or have no idea of what a quality West End show looks or sounds like. |

Confused by the haters..., Mar 29, 2011 |
| reviewer: Anonymous from London |
| Those of you who HATED HATE HATED it... What?! Go and see Les Mis for the 25th year, or even better, Million Dollar wtf...No better yet, stay home and watch the tele. I'm truely thankful a show like this has made it to the West End. Lately, the home of zzzzz. So many unconventional, unrelenting, un'boring' moments. It is a show about nothing and everything, with beautiful music- whaddya mean there's no songs?! No thankyou, I'll stick with CATS- That Andrew Lloyd Webber's going places! Thankyou Umbrellas- for making me believe the WEST END has more to offer... Phew. |

So sad to say this....but it is unbelievably bad, Mar 13, 2011 |
| reviewer: N.R.S.L from London, UK |
| I could not believe how poor this was. I went with no expectations, totally open-minded, ready only to enjoy a night of theatre. But with the exception of the flittering moments of fun at the start & intermission of the show (which themselves were not executed with the skill necessary to make them truly entertaining)I just felt SORRY for the actors/dancers/musicians. Watching the dancers I wondered what they felt as they went through the routines they had been asked to or watched the principal characters deliver such scenes. "Embarrassment" came to mind. I understand how hard it is to make a living in the theatre so I feel so sorry for all those involved. The blame must lay with the director, the individual who had this concept, the people who didn't say at the very start "what? what are you doing? this is awful!". The umbrellas of cherbourg should only be opened again to shield the people, truly responsible for this, from the rotten fruit that should be thrown in honest response!Awful __________________ |

Gobsmacked, Mar 14, 2011 |
| reviewer: Dissapointed from London |
| How on Earth did this end up as a show!? Like another reviewer has commented, live music, good set and some nice dresses were the highlights. I couldn't believe how predictable the 'plot' was. The characters were bland, I couldn't care less for them. I have never been so unmoved by a theatre trip. My biggest regret, not leaving in the interval due to my misguided optimism that the second half would be better! Also watch out for a soaking from nasty chemical foam from above at the end, I’m not 16 and I wanted a theatre trip not a foam party! |

Art with a capital F, Mar 22, 2011 |
| reviewer: J.Rhodes from London |
| Before I write my review I just want to point out that I was aware that this was completely sung through and also aware that it isn't a Andrew Lloyd Webber type musical. I put this as I thought other reviewers were a little off hand by hinting that some people may not be clever enough to understand this show. I understood it and thought it was an awful evenings 'entertainment'. I think when you have art for arts sake it is pointless and boardering on pretension. Characters being carried around may all be well and good but it adds nothing to the piece, the same with the constant scene changes. You can't get used to one before it is whisked away. No one in the cast stood out and I thought the parts with Meow Meow addressing the audience felt like filler due to the tiny plot. I went with a group of friends and 2 out of 10 of us liked it and when I asked them why they did they said it was nice! So there you go, race to see this arty piece of tripe because it is....nice! |
