so so, Feb 09, 2011

| The WOOZ is one of my all time favourites so I was more than looking forward to this but I can’t help but feeling a little disappointed. Yes the singing is amazing and Danielle’s performance is fabulous. It’s hard to believe this is her first role. BUT ... it all lacked a little warmth. Glinda’s costume was cold, the dancing didn’t make me smile with happiness, there needed to be more pauses so you could feel for the characters. Also there was a definite lack of a sing song at the end. I want to leave a show with a buzz and I didn’t :( |

Danielle was a Star, Feb 08, 2011

| Having watched the "Over The Rainbow" show last year and wanting Danielle to win from day one, I was absolutely blown away by her first show on 7 February, her voice is incredible. The whole performance was superb and I would thoroughly recommend seeing it. Michael Crawford has not lost any of his genius and the whole cast must be applauded - well done. |

Brilliant first Preview performance, Feb 08, 2011
|
reviewer: Sheila from London UK
|
| I wondered what to expect from last night's first "Preview" pwerformance - was this to be a dress rehersal with an audience? Might there be frequent stops? And lots of glitches? None of it! - It was as if they had been performing this for months it was so polished. Danielle Hope was magnificent as Dorothy and Toto was so brilliantly trained. Loved the extra songs, the wicked witch's song in particular was very strong. Brilliant effects. Fresh and creative and yet full of the story's original charm. Very young children might find some bits a little scary. A triumph for Andrew Lloyd Webber and congratulations to Danielle on an amazingly confident and professional first public performance. Hopefully will run for a long time. And even though our seats were way up in the Upper Circle our view was good. |

| Just got back from the opening night and what a fantastic
night it was. Everything went without a hitch and the
audience were singing along! Toto was the greatest and
deserves a special mention. A fav childhood film of mine and
can't wait to go back. Every bit as wonderful as it's sister film

Another Lloyd Webber triumph, Feb 08, 2011
|
reviewer: John from Ealing, W London
|
| All the money that has clearly been spent on this new production is well worth it. The stage effects are as spectacular as any I can remember, and the performances are top rate. It is quite astonishing to see Danielle Hope, looking mature and polished in her role as Dorothy, and to realise that it is her first ever stage role. On this performance she has a long career ahead of her. It is also good to see Michael Crawford on his return to the West End after his long debilitating illness. The new songs by Lloyd Webber and Rice have their familiar hallmark and add to the well established songs that many of us have known since childhood. This show is a definite must-see! |

OK - could have been better, Feb 10, 2011
|
reviewer: hmm from London
|
| I went to the second preview, and agree with some of the others that the ending was not really an ending - where was the sing-a-longs to the main tunes. My friend and I did sing along at one point but we did not get the atmosphere we have had before so stopped (but I have been told off while singing along at Hairspray!)
Glinda's dress was disappointing (not very bright) - are they trying to distance themselves from Wicked - where there will be inevitable comparisons. Also agree with another comment about the munchkins - why all blue/violet? Danielle - hard to believe her first role, she will go far. The Wizard underused (expecting more), Wicked Witch - loved her, her song and the dancing that went with it, but being a SCD fan was wanting dances to match the music (and with Arlene Philips doing the choreography I wanted more). Toto - soo cute! All in all the above could well be changed as it was 2nd night. May go again (cheap tickets only I'm afraid) once eveyone has settled in |

not quite over the rainbow, Feb 09, 2011
|
reviewer: Anonymous from Anytown, AT 55555
|
| firstly let me say I am sure children will enjoy this production(It is very panto-like),however I came away dissapointed,.I was so looking forward to Dorothy landing in Oz, only to be greeted by a half empty stage and a distinct lack of colour with the munchkins all in blue.(cute children though) Most of the first half is centred around the circular yellow brick road while leaving the rest of the stage bare and uninteresting. Danielle was good but never really got the excitement going for me. The dog was great. Flying witches and monkeys are a good gimic. I enjoyed the use of the stage in the second half and the witches song is very good. Think there must have been a hitch as the melting witch just walked off stage should a trap door have opened? It looked odd. Definitely agree with another reviewer that the show ends to abruptly without getting the audience involved.
It would not be a show I would be rushing back to see |

Not blown away, Feb 09, 2011
|
reviewer: Phil from Dubai, UAE
|
| I attended the first preview night, fully anticipating being blown
away.... Sadly it didn't happen. I was expecting a new
interpretation of the movie, but what we seemed to get was a
direct transfer to stage with the only real difference being the
addition of a few new songs ( the wicked witch song was
strongest) but none of which will get into your head and
leave you humming for hours.
Production wise, nicely done but overall feels a little bit too
pantomime.
Acting by Danielle was excellent and she will go far. Toto was
very cute and well trained. I expected much more from
Michael Crawford's performance which left me cold.
Overall I would say that this show will do well but I just wish
ALW and team had pushed the creative boundaries a little
more ( or maybe they weren't allowed to). I will be back again
to see the polished performances and was glad I was able to
experience the very first show. |

Absolutely Fabulous - Danielle was Amazing, Feb 13, 2011
|
reviewer: Shelly from West Midlands
|
| This was the best show we have seen in the west end we took our 5 year old daughter for a special birthday treat as she had voted for Danielle in the over the rainbow show so she was very excited she loved watching Danielle she was Amazing. However be warned if you are taking young children try and prepare them it is scary in a few place's the monkeys really scared our little girl but this didn't take away her enjoyment and to top it off we saw Danielle outside the theatre after the show signing autographs and chatting to fans so was lovely.
From watching the film from a child the show didn't dissapoint scenery and special effects were fantastic and the best cast Toto was very cute and really does steal the show.
The whole family throughly enjoyed the show Danielle really delivers she is so confident you would think she has been on the west end for years. |

Too much like Panto, Feb 14, 2011
|
reviewer: JFY from Anytown, AT 55555
|
| I wanted to be awe inspired...I wasn't. Use of mixed media was good but they could have taken this so much further. Although Danielle is great in her first pro role, you could see the lack of experience at the end. The Tin Man was too Buzz Lightyear for me and asides by some of the characters to the audience were too panto. I agree with a review above that the revolving stage was not making use of the whole space and there was no perspective as to the distance to Oz...we never saw it until they were there! With the right light and cloths we could have been taken on a real journey..not just watching people walk on the spot on a revolve, some scenes were played in front of a flat cloth...there was little depth. Dog was great but I got tired (and bored) for him. The ending with the shoes in the cupboard was a bit weird. Michael Crawford was wasted and I think Graham Norton would have been a good Wizard. All in all, I did enjoy it but wouldn't go and see it again |

Disappointing, Feb 18, 2011
|
reviewer: SuperLondoner from London
|
| I had high hopes for this musical but unfortunately I was totally disappointed. The performances were excellent - Danielle Hope was great, Toto was adorable and all the other actors were brilliant too. My problem lies in the actual production of the show - the songs, the music, the effects etc. - it was all very lacklustre. There was no wow factor and no "goose bump" moment. There were no amazing dance scene, no big song, nothing. I actually felt more like a pantomime than a musical and for that reason children will probably love. But being an adult I left feeling that I'd slightly wasted an evening. I think Andrew Lloyd Webber may have got this one wrong. |

Toto-lly Disappointing, Mar 30, 2011
|
reviewer: Tim from Kuwait
|
| Hugely disappointed by the production having enjoyed Over
the Rainbow on the beeb and travelled from Kuwait to see
the resulting show. Arlene Phillips' usually exciting
choreography was nowhere to be seen. Lloyd Webber's new
music was a poor fit alongside the melodic classics from the
movie. The set, while spectacular at times was generally
uninspiring with too much reliance on projections to cover
long scene changes into and out of Kansas. Even the flying
lacked 'special effects' magic which previous shows have
achieved (see Witches of Eastwick.) Sophie Evans as the
stand in Dorothy lacked any sort of stage presence and it was
only the Witch and Toto who performed up to what I have
come to expect as a West End standard. Overall my least
favourite night out in the West End in a long, long time. There
is nothing Wonderful about this Wizard. |

| Saw the show last night and whilst a visual feast with some excellent costumes [Wicked Witch amazingly 'dressed' and brilliantly portrayed by Hannah Waddingham], I did leave the theatre feeling that I hadn't seen the best show in town.
Hard to put my finger on what doesn't 'quite' work [maybe the relationship between the 4 key turns: Dorothy, Lion, Scarecrow and Tin Man a little weak] BUT over-all, the production just didn't gell as I had thought it would and left me somewhat cold.
Rob Jones and Jon Driscoll's contribution wonderful ...... but the direction and choreograhpy just wasn't good enough. Maybe my expectations far too high?
Save your money and pop along to the Novello Theatre and catch Betty Blue Eye's instead. |

|
| Ok my husband and I saw the show this evening and sadly some of my favourite scenes from the original movie were excluded. Examples are: "if i were king of the forest" sang by the lion was not included, there were no horses let alone different coloured ones and the line "hey scarecrow wanna play ball" was written out- a true shame I think. Actors lacked love and warmth, Michael Crawford did not do his "Oh betty" line even once which would of been funny and toto was not a yorkshire terrier although he was so so so cute that I'd gladly give him a home if he needed one. The backround settings were impressive though and the singing was great. Hit, Miss, or Maybe? I would say maybe go see it but only if discount is available. We paid far too much and I wish i just watched the movie at home instead.
Oh and where were the talking trees? There were flying monkeys but not talking trees- go figure that one out. |

Crawford was great to see and the wicked witch of the West

recommend this production to children of all ages under 80.

Great Family Show, Feb 13, 2011
|
reviewer: Dawn Wilson from London, England
|
| My daughter aged 12 has this to say:
"I think the WofO was amazing, and the dog was adorable.
When I came away from the show I thought I would love to
see that again. The set was bright and colourful. The singing
and acting were fantastic, and Dorothy was my favourite. I
would recommend it to 7 and over as some of the bits were
scary for little kids (one little girl was crying when the Witch
came on stage!)
From mum:
Very true to the movie, and as it was only the second night it
was pretty flawless. As big productions go, this is a must see
for families and any fans of the original W of O. Seats ok-ish
but then we paid only £25 for them in the upper circle
months ago, and we moved to better seats at interval.
We went to the Sushi bar next door to the theatre and they
were helpful as we didn't want a meal, just a quick bit of
chips and coke for my daughter (and wine for me) but the
food looked great and staff friendly.
Good night out at the Palladium overall. |

Amazing!!!!!!, Feb 14, 2011
|
reviewer: Rich Bailey from Mansfield Woodhouse, UK
|
| We have been to many of the shows in the West End, and after watching the show on TV that found what appears to be a massive star in Danielle, I bought tickets for my wife for her birthday! When I discovered this was a preview week I was a little apprehensive, however I would not have known as the show was slick throughout! I agree with a few comments made regarding certain elements being a little "dark" and scary for the younger children, however I believe they were integral to the story and that the stage show benefits from them being included. The witch was brilliant, and of course Michael Crawford was his usual professional and amazing self, we did however think at one point his American accent went a bit Frank Spencer!! Danielle Hope was outstanding, she is literally on stage for the full 2 hours and how she manages that whilst also controlling Toto I will never know!
I would recommend going to see Wicked first, then go to see the WOOZ, we will definitely be going again!! |

Can't believe this was Danielle's first pro performance, Feb 14, 2011
|
reviewer: JR from London
|
| Went to see opening preview night. Was blown away by Danielle's performance from start to finish, especially bearing in mind it must have been quite an emotional show for her. She's a real star who's just starting to shine, her future is bright.
The show was fun, and the special effects were great, even felt a little giddy during the storm... but I was up in the upper circle.
The dog was adorable, and Danielle coped really well with this even when the dog wasn't quite at the same place in the script.
Agree with some of the reviews that the ending is a little flat. Could end with curtain calls to a sing along song where we can all join in.
Would definitely recommend, although may be better to wait a little and hope they change the ending.
On the whole a great family show with a rising star. |

Wizard of boOze - (Part 1 of 2), Feb 23, 2011
|
reviewer: NT-G from UK
|
| Firstly a HUGE problem with The Plldm. OZ is generally considered to be a kids show (old and young alike). We were angry that a seriously/openly drunken group of noisy adults (50yrs+) were allowed in halfway through the first half. Noisy and reeking of booze, the group of approx 10 stumbled to their seats around us, full glasses in already hand. It continued, and mid-performance more booze was opened, then passed around. Bear in mind, we were in the middle of this with two 9yr old girls. I do like a drink too, but they displayed absolutely no form of moderation. I'm amazed that the management thinks this is acceptable with 40% of the audience of school age - even on a school night it was packed. Is this a reflection of Mr L-W's point of view? For his sake I hope not. Part 2 of our experience follows ... |

Better than Wicked, May 08, 2011
|
reviewer: Sue Reid from London
|
| Took my daughters and 3 grandchildre aged 6 to 8 years old. We sat in row C of the Upper Circle and even the little ones had a good view, it was also a good spot for the aerial effects. Clever use of sepia at the start of the production. Sophie Evans as Dorothy was superb, warm with an outstanding voice. The wicked witch struck just the right balance as a very scary but also very funny witch with a strong voice and good stage presence. The tin man, scarecrow and lion were wonderful characters, funny and vulnerable making you sympathetic to their plight. All the other character added to the overall enjoyment. as chorus as munchkins and citizens of the Emerald City. Toto was wonderful and well behaved helped by treats on occasions.
Scenery, pyrotechnics, special effects and dancing were all of a high standard and added to the feel good factor. I would recommed this to everyone and would definitely go again. I have seen Wicked and much prefer Wizard of Oz |

| Watched the TV series to select Danielle and I remember getting goose bumps everytime one of the finalists sang Over the Rainbow.
I was so disappointed with the show. Danielle was luke warm and her rendition of Over the Rainbow left me unmoved; her voice needed to be louder and stronger.
We were in the upper circle and I wonder if we lost some of the atmosphere or sparkle from afar. It felt like the show was on a budget, I was expecting spectacular special effects, and a larger cast of munchkins. |

| Saw the Sunday matinee with 4 friends. The wicked witch was outstanding, Toto was utterly adorable and I loved the scarecrow, tin-man and lion (in that order!)Danielle played Dorothy brilliantly, as expected, but I'd love to see Sophie's take on Dorothy as she was my preferred choice during the TV series due to her youth and naivety. We had the most expensive seats, but those in the circle would have had a better experience because it was difficult to see the stage floor from the stalls and it was sometimes a struggle to view the yellow brick road and ruby slippers etc. No Michael Crawford either, but reading these reviews suggests that quite common! The 'flying on wires' scenes should have been spectacular but seemed a little awkward and clunky. Orchestra were great. Overall I loved the show, it just wasn't the best I've been to but I have no concerns in recommending it as an entertaining event for the family (Some small kids got scared during some scenes)ENJOY! |

| Russell grant ruined this show for me, he cant act, dance or sing and his accent reminded me of Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins, yes really that awful. Luckily the wizard part is not big and I TRIED NOT TO LET IT SPOIL EVERYONE ELSE, BUT HE REALLY DID! The wicked witch of the west stole the show. Dont pay to see this whilst he is in it, I spent a lot of money travelling hotels and tickets and wish I'd saved my money and time! Michelle (saw show 11.02.12) |

| I emphatically disagree with all the negative reports on
Russell Grant. We were at the evening performance today
(Thursday 16th February 2012) and the entire cast were
amazing. The show is worth every penny and my
grandchildren, my daughter and I were enthralled by the
whole show. Of course Russell Grant is different to Michael
Crawford, who, doubtless, would have been equally brilliant,
but Grant lends an air to the role that would be lacking in
other performers. Don't take my word for it - go and see the
show for yourself while Russell is still in the title role. Enjoy! |

| I went to see the matinee for my mum's 60th birthday, I enjoyed it and there were some great stars in the making (Scarecrow and Witch of the West were fab) however i wanted to throw something at Russell Grant, his american accent was terrible, his singing was so-so and his acting wasn't great, i just got annoyed everytime he came on! Toto was the star, Sophie as the lead just didnt feel strong enough. I think that I would have been satisfied with this at my local theatre but felt a bit let down seeing as I was in the west end paying west end prices. Went to see the evening performance of Les Miserables later and it just blows this show away, now that is a show and a half! |

| I saw Wizard of Oz on first preview night and to be fair it was really good for a first preview and therefore it would be wrong to think this was how it's going to be on opening night but I just wanted to say it is worth the price of a ticket just for Helen Waddingham's performance alone. People are saying her song was good but purely because she made it so. The tunes penned by ALW are a disappointment as was the choreography. Danielle's performance - she has a lot to deal with and I am sure she will be great in time as it was she was more than fine. I felt the cast were pacing themselves apart from the Lion and HW Wicked Witch of the East. I would recommend you go see for yourself. |

| I went with my 2 grand-daughters aged 3 and 4, my daughter and my sister to the opening preview night and was not disappointed. The girls were totally enthralled although the youngest was scared of the bad witch! The music and scenery were superb, however the lighting and fireworks are very bright, a warning might be helpful. Although there were 2/3 'technical' hitches, these added rather than detracted from the performance. All the cast were superb particularly the wicked witch, loved the scarecrow and Toto. Michael Crawford was superb although I thought his character was a bit weak. Watch out for the Conductor who I thought was going to take off on a couple of occasions. Will definitely go again. |

| We saw the wizard of oz on opening night. What a fantastic
show!!! Was a bit disappointed with the lack of music whilst
the cast took their bows, it all seemed a bit cold. Maybe a
technical hitch???? Still a great show despite this. Great
performance from the whole cast especially Danielle. |

|

Wow!, Feb 15, 2011

| A truly wonderful night out. Hard to believe this is still the previews as the performance was so good. A bright, colourful, busy, feel good musical with just the right balance of happy/sad/scary bits. The special effects are amazing. The only thing perhaps lacking is a big, musical finale as it ends a wee bit like a school show - but this is still the previews so that may yet happen. I would say the best place to view this show is the Royal Circle (and the folk in the first few rows especially as there is quite a lot of aerial action).
A musical worth seeing! |

Fantastic Evening , Feb 16, 2011
|
reviewer: Jan Bullen from Worcestershire, UK
|
| We attended the preview evening performance on 15th February 2011 in aid of Prostate Cancer and Great Ormond Street and thought it absolutely stunning. The sound effects were truly brilliant despite ALW warning us things might not go according to plan but from an audience point of view they did - I felt right in the middle of the Twister. The cast were embracing including Dorothy, Wizard of Oz (Michael Crawford was excellent)Scarecrow, Tinman and Lion) and they all mingled with the audience at the post show reception and signed autographs and posed for photographs. Both witches were spine-tingling. The Duchess of Gloucester was present sitting with Prof. Roger Kirby, Consultant Urologist who had probably operated on most of the men present in the audience!! An exhilarating evening and one that I would recommend to everyone.

An Absolute Whiz!, Feb 17, 2011
|
reviewer: Diane and Gerry from London
|
| We thoroughly enjoyed this show. I have seen two previous stage adaptations of the "Wizard" but this was definitely the best. Danielle Hope made a creditable professional stage debut as Dorothy and she was well supported by all cast members in particular the versatile Hannah Waddingham, unrecogisable as the Wicked Witch of the West, and David Ganley as the Cowardly Lion. Robert Jones' set design was excellent, in particular the tornado effect which whisked Dorothy over the rainbow. I am not ALW's biggest fan as a rule, but I felt that he and director Jeremy Sams have done an excellent job in fleshing out a plot which can sometimes flag after the characters arrival in Oz. The additional songs worked well and the ending, despite criticisms from other reviewers, rounded the story off succesfully. This is not karaoke and it is not always necessary to have a "sing along" finale. Only one criticism - I wish they would have found a more creative choreographer. |

| Although they are still having a few hiccups this show was fantastic. Seen it yesterday (19th) matinee. Michael crawford was poorly and Zeph stood in - although he had the words in his hand he did a cracking job. There was a technical hitch in Scene 5 where the curtains had to come down but only for 5 minutes or so. Certainly recommend this show to anyone. |

This musical has real potential!!!!!, Feb 20, 2011
|
reviewer: James from Hednesford, England

| Went to see Oz 19th feb and was left feeling so excited!Yes Michael Crawford was ill and his understudy stepped in and delivered a more than satisfactory performance. The production of this musical is sublime. Really sublime. From the spiralling set, to the pyrotechnics, to the flying witche, to the computer projected screen to create the tornado scene. The whole set is a juggernaut that at this moment in time will have glitches, but they will be ironed out. The songs are amazing, colour of the scenes will leave any child or adult left amazed. And finally, the only reason I went to see oz was because of the "Over the rainbow" TV show that found a really inexperienced young girl from Manchester to play the role of Dorothy. All my votes to Danielle was so worth it as she did an incredible job. Cant believe it was only her 13th show! Her voice, acting, are all on par, her tenderness is incredible and I would be amazed if she does not end up on Broadway in a few years. She is a bright STAR! |

West End standard?, Feb 20, 2011
|
reviewer: K from Hampshire
|
| Having booked tickets for this preview matinee a year ago, built up expectations unfortunately weren’t wholly met by the usual calibre of an Andrew Lloyd Webber production. The hick-ups naturally to be expected in preview (Michael Crawford being too sick to perform and a technical delay for 10 minutes) slowed the pace and took some of the West End 'magic' away (although the Crawford sudden stand-in did a capable job) but it was more the overlong and unimaginative twister effect (a bit of a cheat for a production of this magnitude?) and the lack of big West End ensemble show stoppers that left us over 18’s feeling a little short changed. The ending is altered from the film, okay for a bit of artistic license, but lacked that real big show-time finale sending us on our awe inspired way.
Danielle Hope however was truly magical singing Over the Rainbow, the Witch impressed with her lack of vertigo (we’re guessing as UC can’t see this bit…) and we loved the crows, but on the whole the rest of the show left us feeling that we’d watched a mediocre production great for the kids (5 and 3) but with bags more potential to satisfy us slightly older musical fans on a rare trip to the capital’s Theatreland.

Wizard of boOze - Part 2., Feb 24, 2011
|
reviewer: NT-G from UK
|
| It's a real shame, but the drunken group around us did spoil it. But here, I'll concentrate on the show. I was not a Michael Crawford fan, but he was excellent and really belted out a great song. Would see him again. The witch stole the show though and made the role her own. Dorothy had no natural warmth or sparkle but Toto was a great! Only 2 monkeys flew - expected more. There were small technical problems throughout but a MAJOR hitch at the end though. Dorothy's bucket was empty (not even any glitter for water), the floor didn't open, no smoke appeared, and witch had to walk off stage right to strains of "Ding dong the witch is dead". We wanted to shout: "No she isn't - she's over there in the wings!!" A shame, the climax of the show was a flop. BUT the overall effects and colours etc, were as bright as Walt Disney. Without the drunks, a new Dorothy and no technical problems, the show has the potential to be great. |

| Took our daughter on her 13th birthday together with her 2 brothers. Couldn't believe that a multi-million pound production would give us an understudy for the sick Michael Crawford that had to read from the script all the way through and hum the words of his main song. Might have been a preview but at £50 a ticket in the world's most famous theatre 8 months in the making we should have got a more professional response. Bill Kenwright's patronising pre-performance non-apology "At least Everton beat Chelsea" was an insult.
From the first 5 rows of the stalls the view of key elements (ruby slippers, squashed wicked witch, yellow brick road) is severly restricted.
Shame because Danielle is fantastic. |

The Wizard wasn't 'wonderful', just 'okay', Feb 26, 2011
|
reviewer: Claire from Norfolk, UK
|
| Saw this on Wednesday afternoon with my 9yr old as her birthday treat. Fortunately, she loved it from start to finish but my hubby and I were disappointed and, dare I say it, bored. Dorothy lacked warmth and character, the scenery could have been far more magical and some sing-a-long songs at the end would have finished it off nicely. It's definitely more 'panto' in style than I anticipated. Michael Crawford's second understudy managed(ish) but, for us, the wicked witch's performance was the best. We won't return but I do hope the feedback is used to improve the performance or I fear it will have a limited shelf life. And the door staff need to get themselves organised as each one was shouting conflicting directions to their colleague! |

Great production but no warmth, Feb 26, 2011
|
reviewer: Spud from UK
|
| Saw this on Wednesday 23rd and came away generally impressed. For me the dynamic scenery left me more entertained than the performances. Only the Wicked Witch & Dorothy had any 'Star Quality' and charisma. The other characters didn't live up to their on-screen counterparts and there lacked warmth between the main four. I was also dissapointed with the ending, not only how abrupt it was, but also that she still had the slippers. I thought the cleverness in the film ending was spoilt. Having said all that I did enjoy it and would recommend it to others. |

| Bought tickets for this show back in May and went to the performance on the 25th. Personally I thought the set was brilliant as was Michael Crawford and the wicked witch.
But as for the rest of the show and cast well all I can say is that it's a good job the TV show persuaded us all to buy tickets because the show certainly won't.
If I'd wanted to see a Panto I'd have gone 2 months earlier. Kids may love it but it lacked warmth and depth as a production. The Tin Man over acted like mad and I'd agree with an earlier reviewer as I half expected him to shout "to infinity and beyond" at any moment.
Generally a very disappointing show. |

The witch is fab as was Danielle. Toto had us giggling too as he tried to crawl under Glindas dress! Michael Crawford was off ill the night we were there so can't comment on his performance.
Overall this is a happy, lighthearted show kids will adore it and enough to keep grown-ups happy too! |

Geart show for intorducinga child to......, Mar 04, 2011
|
reviewer: mjpknuts from Cheshire
|
| Great show for introducing children to the
musicals but the show was very much lacking in
good dance routines and also no outstanding new
songs except for the Witches song...nothing else
stood out.
Costumes/sets on the whole good. Acting Witch,
Dorothy, Toto and Scarecrow were the best.
First half lacked Wiz except for a few moments
e.g. openning scene and the twisster..second half
far better.
Saw Wicked the night before and felt production
had tried to copy and failed in many many ways.
If you haven't booked then dress circle best seats
not front stalls. One felt ripped off by ticket
price when show failed to deliver expected
standards... should be first class all round not
second. Could do much better in many respects. |

7.30pm the wizard of oz was performed to
perfection at the london palladium. Myself 23
years partner 25 & nan 63 years all WOWED by the
show. Excellent performance by all including
little toto :) The wizard of oz is special to
myself & nan and to see it performed at such a
high standard really brought it home for us.
real family feel and warmth to the show. A 5
year old was in front and i could see the magic on
stage is defiantly special to all ages as she was
beaming with joy. The special affects and little
touches made the whole performance come to life -
well acted out - well wrote and by far the best
i've seen. We was seated in the stalls row R -
could not fault the view. Effortless performace by
all :)
Well done to all cast and crew for making a magic
moment for me & my family. 10/10 to Sir Andrew
Lloyd Webber and of course Danielle. I am going
back and would recommend for all to see. I went to
see the wizard... |

| Well well well amazing and performed to perfection by all cast could not fault a thing. Seated in the stalls excellent view not restricted in anyway. I would recommed this performance for all to see great family feel a little jumpy in parts (wicked witch) but thats how its ment to be really gets you going. I saw all age's from 5 year old chldren too 65+. Of course Danielle was great along with toto but the wicked witch was absolutly amazing 10/10. Affects used to bring the twister and other ares's wow brilliant not too much as to take the focus from being at a performance and not a screening. Script and songs couldn't fault really funny tin man. Michael crawford a wonderful wizard :) Danielle well suited as dorothy could not imagine anyone else playing the part 10/10.
Props on stage made the show really come to life in all ways. All songs sung perfectly looked so easy. I will be going back to see the show soon and no doubt be wowed all over again. Well done to all involved x |

| I took my 6yr old niece to see the show, she enjoyed it, I didn't! Frankly I was bored. The only song with any impact was the one from the wicked witch. Dorothy has a lovely voice, but still there was something missing.I also thought that Michael Crawfords performance was lacklustre. To be honest I think that the production lets the show down. The munchkins were mediocre, the dancing uninspirational, the set most of the time pretty average and there was no big sing-a-long finale. Definitely not worth the price of the ticket. |

|
| Saw the production on Sunday 20 March, with Sophie playing Dorothy. I wasn't disappointed as I had actually wanted her to win the TV show. I agree with the comments that it lacked some of the razzmatazz of other musicals, but it was still a magical experience. The cast made it look effortless and the special effects transported me to Kansas and then Oz. My only disappointment was that Toto wasn't name-checked. He was definitely the star of the show for me! |

The Wizard that Was ..., Mar 21, 2011
|
reviewer: Kerry B from Warwickshire, England
|
| A belated Christmas treat, the Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favourites and the transformation from sepia to colour did not disappoint. However, this is where the magic dimmed slightly for me at least. The star of the show, it has to be said was the scenery, and the scenery movers who must have been working their socks off under the stage. Sophie Evans was good as Dorothy, we preferred her to Danielle in the BBC show anyway, so that wasn't a problem for us, but Mr Crawford seemed a little lacklustre and the Wizard is such a small part of the show, I feel that money would have been better spent employing well known actors as the Lion, Tinman and Scarecrow who spend the majority of the time on stage. The Witch was fantastic, in fact she held the show, rapier wit, fantasic costumes and a musical number worthy of Cher! All in all a pleasant afternoon, but I'm glad I didn't pay for top price tickets. |

The set was magnificent, the special effects were spellbinding (and a little scary for one of the 6yr olds, who wound herself around me like a python and cried during the twister!!) Hannah Waddingham was stunning as the witch.Funny and wicked in just the right way. Danielle superb as Dorothy - lived up to the hype! Well acted and beautiful singing. Lion a fabulously camp cat, Tin Man a magically manly tapper and Scarecrow simply wonderful - excellent. New songs were well blended, felt like you had heard them before, great choreography. Magical Uplifting Entertainment, Sep 01, 2011

| My daughters & I saw this show yesterday. We all agreed it was
the
best musical we had all seen. Special mention to the set
designers,
superb and the orchestra, wonderful. We couldn't make up our
mind
who gave the best performance. The Wicked Witch, The Tin Man
or
The Scarecrow. We finally settled on The Wicked Witch who we
thought was awesome. How to improve...... my daughters
thought
when the Wicked Witch melted if her dress could be left behind
on
stage that would be the icing on the cake. Wonderful
entertainment
could easily have sat through and watched the next performance! |

A must see musical event!!!!!, Sep 06, 2011

reviewer: Niamh from Hayes, middlesex

| I saw the show on Aug 28th 2011, the cast were all
fabulous, the additional songs that Andrew wrote
really went well with the original movie
soundtrack like it was there in the original
movie. The show itself really flowed nicely and
the set was great, choreography fabulous. This is
a show for everyone not just kids. Please go see
it you'll be sorry if u don't! There are lodes of
nearby restaurants and is really easy to get to
and I think you could take all the family young or
old to see this show. |

| Saw this marvelous show yesterday and my daughter and grand-children thought ir the best musical they had ever seen.Sophie Evans, Danielle's understudy was great and in no way did we feel cheated that she was Dorothy. She was incredible and we take our hats off to her for a truly fantastic performance. |

Fantastic, Sep 13, 2011

| Being a big fan of the film and having followed the tv show to find Dorothy, I was keen to travel down to London from Edinburgh to see the show. On 1st September 2011, I went to the London Palladium and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. The special effects, Danielle Hope and Toto were all excellent features and characters of the show. The only down side to the show was the audience. Many people walked in late, which I find very rude to the actors and actresses of the show as well as the people who have bought tickets. With it being a family show, many children were present in the palladium and found it very difficult not to talk and sit through the whole length of the show. With there being the whole wicked witch aspect of the story, I found many people began to think they were in a panto and started the booing and clapping along to the songs etc. If I wanted to boo at characters, I'd go to a panto and not a West End Musical. This aside, the show was excellent. |

| absolutely fabulous, a real find. Didn't know what to expect,
as had to entertain a 13 year old, 10 yr old, 4 yr old and
husband to stay awake during the whole performance.
The Wizard of Oz ticked all the boxes and the whole family
were raving about it.
The actors were entertaining, amusing and vocally sound.
Well done to the whole cast, directors etc. |

disappointing, Feb 26, 2012

|
| was really looking forward to this show after reading the good reviews, then to find out after booking that michael crawford was to be replaced by RUSSELL GRANT who was awfull & that is being kind, RUSSELL please stick to reading the Horoscopes. the rest of the show was so so, with added songs that were not in the film, so we felt that they were not needed & did not add to the show. |

Very Disappointed, Feb 26, 2012
|
reviewer: Nigel Shirley from Bucks UK
|
| We have seen many west end shows and this was the most disappointing. Whoever cast Russell Grant should be sacked. He was funny in Strictly but totally out of his depth, can't sing or act. Sophie Evans has talent and has a beautiful voice but she cannot carry a west end show yet. The dog got by far the most applause at end of show. We stayed in London for a weekend birthday treat and met 3 couples in hotel who had all travelled long distance to see this show, there was general disappointment and annoyance at the poor quality and at £80 per ticket was terrible value for money and would consider this a ripoff. The theatre people cannot just someone they consider to be a "name", put them in west end show and charge top money for a third rate performance. Extra songs had been added and they did not enhance the show. We will think long and hard before seeing another show by this group. If Mr Lloyd Webber ( we have loved his other shows) is involved he should be ashamed. |

Get rid of Grant, Feb 28, 2012
|
reviewer: Miss T Wood from Lincolnshire

| Oh dear. A great show spoilt by the inept performance of RG. Sorry - I don't like to be hard on people but this would have been a 4.5 score had it not been for the awful Russell Grant. He has a better voice than I thought, but his camp acting and dancing are not appropriate for the role. Andrew, can him before its too late.
Dorothy was excellent, as were the Tin Man, The Scarecrow (5 stars) and the Lion. The wicked witch was also 5 star in my view. Great speaking and singing voice. The staging was also very clever. |

| What a Production!! I thoroughly enjoyed the show apart from Russell Grant. What a poor performance, we didn't realise until we had purchased the tickets that there was going to be a different Wizard. He really wastes the show...........

| Very very disappointed with the show, left at half
time, very expensive at £166 for 2 tickets in not
very good seats.
I wish we could have a refund as being semi retired
it was a very expensive cost.
Would NOT suggest anyone else pay so much for
tickets and be upset |

An OUSTANDING show, Apr 07, 2012
|
reviewer: Martin from Suffolk, UK
|
| On Sunday April 1 I went to WOOZ and was absolutely blown away. The only West End show I had seen before was the Woman in Black (which was awful) but this was BRILLIANT! Dorothy's understudy who played Dorothy was amazing - you'd never know she didn't normally do it, Russell Grant was outstandingly fabulous, each one of his songs putting a smile on my face and sending (positive) shivers down my spine. The scarecrow, tin man and lion were very good and I especially loved Glinda (who coincidentally was also being played by an understudy). One small improvement could be that the Wicked Witch's costume didn't look much like what it did in the film, and I felt it detracted from her scariness. But apart from that minor tiny detail it was an OUTSTANDINGLY FABULOUSLY AMAZINGLY BRILLIANT SHOW!!! Thank you so much London Palladium, worth every penny |

| went see the wizard of oz tonight a birthday present from my children ,what a let down, the 4 main actors were awful and to make it worse russell grant was an embarresment needs to go watch the stars not try to be one,who on earth cast him as the wizard must have been having a bad day,the characters were weak and for 65 a ticket it was a total waste of money ,the sets were fantastic ,just the acting was 3rd rate ,the witches were very good and saved the night ,after the show had to be stopped for 10 mins ,put some decent actors in or you will have a empty theatre , |

| I came to see this fantastick show with my mum, brother and my 9 year old son. My son has never been to see a west end production in his entire life and he absolutely loved it. Met the cast after the show and everyone was so brilliant. I used to watch the film every Christmas it was on since an early age. So to see it on stage was a dream come true for me and I was totally star struck.
What a great show for all ages. I recommend that you go and see it.

| Just seen this show tonight and it was outstanding in every
sense of the wizard of oz world. Dorothy was fantastic and my
absolute favourite from the tv reality show, which is why I
waited to see her in the leading role. She did Andrew proud.
The show was Andrew Lloyd webber at his best, he never fails
to amaze me. There was a touch of 'Disney, The Phantom and
the special effects were amazing s was the set and
costumes.well done everyone, can't wait to go again, and it
made me cry! |
