Glengary Glen Ross

Glengary Glen Ross at Apollo Theatre

Why see Glengary Glen Ross?

"Let me have your attention for a moment... We're adding a little something to this month's sales contest. As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize? Second prize is a set of steak knives. Third prize is you're fired." With these words, the cut-throat sales team at a Chicago Real Estate agency are thrown into the worst week of their working lives, in David Mamet's 'Glengarry Glen Ross', one of the finest portrayals of the money-obsessed 1980s.

The aggressive masculinity of the dialogue - which was so profane that thecast of the 1992 movie renamed it 'Death of a f****** salesman - and the ferocious tension between the four male leads make this one of Mamet's greatest works. In this new production at the ApolloTheatre, Jonathan Pryce plays the past-it old hack Shelley Levene, while Aiden Gillen (most recently seen as the ambitious Councillor Tommy Carcetti in 'The Wire') is the thrusting young Ricky Roma.
