Why See Three Days of Rain?

AN ABSORBING, INTENSE DRAMA HELMED BY JAMIE LLOYD

Three Days of Rain is an absorbing, intense family drama that explores love, infidelity and genetic inheritance. Written by US playwright Richard Greenberg, the richly atmospheric play presents itself as a mystery, where clues gradually unravel and new discoveries bring new questions as the children of two architects desperately try to understand the past.

The first half, set in 1995, sees the meeting of brother and sister Walker and Nan, children of famous architect Ned, for the reading of his will. As complications arise, they are joined by Pip - their childhood friend, Nan's secret former lover, and the son of Ned's business partner Theo. The trio wrangle with memories, their relationships and the fate of Ned's house, all the more complicated by the discovery of his journal.

Set in 1960s, the second half is set in the same loft but now shows the life of the children's parents. The two architects Ned and Theo, and Lina, Walker and Nan's mother who was firstly Theo's girlfriend, are shown to be vastly different to the characters their children imagine them to be.

Three Days of Rain was nominated for the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Jamie Lloyd's revival has a star-studded cast with Lyndsey Marshal (The Hours), Nigel Harman (A Chorus of Disapproval) and James McAvoy (Atonement).
