Fans of Monty Python's Life of Brian rejoice! This brand-new comedy play focuses on a man in Biblical times, who, came so very close to becoming a certain saviour and leader of mankind. That is, if only his over-protective Dad would have let him... NotMoses is the brainchild and stage debut of award-winning film maker Gary Sinyor, who premieres his rather, erm, adult version of the biblical tale at the Arts Theatre for 10 weeks only.

What is it about?

Once upon a time in the Sinai desert, a male baby is plucked from the reeds of the River Nile - and promptly dumped in again when a cuter baby arrives around the bend a few minutes later. Ouch. The latter baby is Moses,who grows up in the Pharoah's palace studying to be an accountant, whereas the first baby, NotMoses, becomes a disgruntled slave with a rather over-protective father. When the Exodus occurs, both men are forced to flee together into the wastes of the Sinai Desert. When the burning bush appears, instead of making tablets, they make kebabs. All of life's most mysterious questions are answered - how far can you go before you commit adultery? And who is the mysterious Miriam, who happens upon them by chance, and what has she got to do with the promised land of cows and bees?

Guaranteed to raise eyebrows and more than just a few laughs, this stage debut by Jewish film maker Gary Sinyor turns everything you thought you knew about the Exodus story, and not so much turns it on its head, but also drop-kicks it into the Nile.
