Join the English National Orchestra for the world premiere of the highly anticipated Between Worlds, showing at the Barbican from 11 - 25 April 2015. Between Worlds is the first ever opera of composer Tansy Davies, a rising star in the contemporary classical music world. Combining modern soundscapes with an avant-garde flair, Davies' music is always straddling the old world and the new. In this sensitive and poetic look into the interactions of humans under great duress, Davies score shines with grace and poignancy.
Set high up in the North Tower of the World Trade Center, five characters are trapped in an unoccupied office - a janitor who stayed for extra pay and two women and two men who arrived early to view the office space. Realising that there is no way out once the plane has hit, the group grapples with their fate and desperately tries to contact their loved ones. The opera strikes a profound chord as they express fear, love and loss in their last moments.
