The Royal Shakespeare Company bring their new production of Ben Jonson's landmark satire The Alchemist to London this autumn. The story of a duplicitous butler who takes advantage of his master's absence from London during an outbreak of the plague to run his own nefarious crime ring from his house, alongside a circle of down and outs who are happy to help prey on the desperate souls that stumble into their path.
With a story that was claimed by Samuel Coleridge to be one of the most perfect plots ever written, it's a biting farce that frames the folly of hubris and vanity that has lasted throughout the years, continuing to be revived over 400 years after it's first performance by The Kings Men in 1610.
