The Woman in White

The Woman in White at Charing Cross Theatre

Why see The Woman in White?

the world's first detective story

This gothic Victorian thriller finally returns to London this winter in its first major revival that also features the premiere of the newly revised score from Andrew Lloyd Webber and David Zippels. Based on Wilkie Collins' tremendous novel, The Woman in White is a sweeping melodrama full of mystery, madness, and murder. Just what you want from a night at the theatre.

The story follows Walter Hartright, an everyman drawing tutor on his way to meet his new pupils, Laura Fairlie and Marian Halcombe, two young daughters of the grand Limmerage House estate. His journey is interrupted by the fleeting vision of a young woman dressed all in white at the sides of the railway track. Scared and desperate she tries to tell him something but is soon swallowed up by the darkness. Troubled by this event, he tells his new students who set out to discover the truth of the apparition, begining a winding tale of romance, engagements, betrayals and revenge from beyond the grave...
