Nick Payne and artistic director Josie O'Rourke reunite once again for a world premiere play that explores future medicine and the cost of extending life beyond natural parameters. This is Payne's second play that deals with science, following the success of his 2012 play Constellations starring Rafe Spall that saw a Broadway transfer.
Elegy follows the path of three women as they face their own mortality, but are granted the chance to save their lives and live for longer - but at the expense of love, as the opportunity isn't extended to their nearest and dearest. As well as talking with medical experts and scientists, the play's spiritual outlook came from conferring with former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams.
