Returning to the West End following its sold-out, Olivier-nominated run in early 2023, this extraordinary new play makes an additional West End bow. Through a mesmerising display of music, movement and verse, Nouveau Riche and playwright Ryan Calais Cameron's For Black Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Hue Gets Too Heavy presents a story of six young black men in group therapy. From merrily swapping fashion tips to experiences of profound sadness, For Black Boys... offers a window into black masculinity and identity in a freeform style that captures the imagination from the very first scene.

With its infectious songs and romantic escapades, this brand-new musical is bound to be a hit. With the same team that brought us everyone's favorite Henry VIII-based sing-a-long Six', the West End can expect an incredible show this autumn. Writers Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss had this to say about the upcoming musical: "This is ultimately a musical about two friends, their desire for love, and how they deal with loneliness. We hope people come away feeling super uplifted".

  • Year opened: 1889
  • Capacity: 656
  • Concession stands
  • Merchandise booths
  • Disabled access
  • In-house bar
  • Coat check

Although seemingly vast from the Charing Cross Road exterior and originally seating 1,500, The Garrick is now a rather smaller capacity theatre, currently seating 656.

Untouched in over 60 years is the upper gallery, with its original bench seating intact, just in case of excessive demand. With the dress circle situated on street level, the theatre saw extensive excavations during its erection, with work halted by the discovery of a subterranean river running through the site, hidden since Roman times.

Officially opening in 1889, the theatre was financed by W.S Gilbert of 'and Sullivan' fame and is named for famous thesp David Garrick. Mostly hosting comedy and comedy-drama through the years, notable productions have included No Sex Please We're British, the West End Transfer of the National Theatre's revival of an Inspector Calls and Sir Kenneth Branagh's year-long residency in 2016.
