'ENJOY' AT THE GIELGUD THEATRE

Funny but harrowing. The acting was superb, especially Alison Steadman as Connie.

ENJOY : ALAN BENNETT

The acting is wonderful, particularly so Alison Steadman, which brings to life Alan Bates at his supreme best! There's Bennett's trademark humour and pathos;rich observation of the minutia of working class life and values when it was written in 1980,combined with some predictions that have come to pass but must have seemed very black, almost surreal at the time.Perhaps this is part mitigation for its relative failure when first performed. However above all it is really very funny, and although the title bears no relationship to the play I do believe it is the best one I've ever seen and and you are bound to "Enjoy".

LIFT YOUR SPIRITS IN THE NORTH

Needless to say, a stunning performance with plenty of Bennet one-liners to devastate the audience. The play has real substance, but so well timed it will have you rocking in your seat. The cure for the blues is obviously a cup of tea, but strong enough to stand a spoon in. I would gladly go again despite knowing in advance what happens. Nothing much does, but just watch those characters and attitudes revealed. Bennet at his very best.

I LAUGHED UNTIL I CRIED

this was a wonderful production with the usual Alan Bennett brilliantly observed characters. I could watch it again and again. There are so many layers and the story is presented so that different interpretations are possible, which makes it personal to everyone.

ENJOY IS A GEM

I felt I was intruding into this couples private lives, and felt privileged to be able to do so. Fabulously funny in the spirit of the old british farce but just when you feel comfortable , bang it shocks you into feeling a deep sadness for this couples pitiful but to them 'ordinary' life. Connie and Wilf will stay in my heart for a very long time.

ALISON REALLY IS A TRUE STAR

What a treat to see Alison Steadman in her usual professional top form. My favourite actress of all time, she really is up there with Julie Walters and Dame Judi Dench. This show really is a gem and the cast did not disappoint. I only wish my sister and I had opted for the stalls instead of the grand circle as I felt a bit too far away and wanted to climb over the people in front! P.S. Beautiful theatre too!

ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!!

This play was well and truly 'Enjoyed' by both myself,my husband and the audience-lots of laughter & rapturous applause!!! Alison Steadman is a favourite of ours and once again she did not disappoint-her mannerisms were superb!David Troughton was also excellent-I've never laughed out loud so much -especially at the Foreplay/afterplay line to name but one!!Alison Macready as Mrs Clegg was also a brilliant portrayal of a typical bossy, nosy overbearing neighbour!! Although there was lots of laughter there were also many poignant moments which made you really feel for the characters.Although the end wasn't what I expected it did not detract from the performance.I would love to see it again..and again...
