Lend Me A Tenor

Lend Me A Tenor at Gielgud Theatre

Why see Lend Me A Tenor?

Set in Ohio in 1934, where the failing Grand Opera Company is about to be saved by the arrival of the world’s greatest tenor Tito Merelli.

When he is unexpectedly incapacitated, it falls to the director’s meek assistant to find a replacement, a task made more difficult by a scheming soprano, a tenor-struck ingénue, a jealous wife and the Cleveland Police department.

Excellent fun

My wife and I took my parents as a birthday treat. Great show, lots of fun, very high quality vocals, and a cast which evidently are enjoying themselves. Everything a musical comedy should be and highly recommended. ... Read more

Don't miss 'Tenor'

From curtain up a 5* show - it has pace, humour, farce, pathos and a terrific company who deliver a great evening's entertainment. It would be hard to choose 'best performer' as their isn't a weak-link in the entire cast. Matthew Kelly is perfect as the harassed, three wived impresario who's future relies on the 'show going on'; Michael Matus as Mirelli is entirely convincing as the washed out 'opera-idol' who has had it with performance but is considerate enough to encourage others; Damian Humbley makes the transition from nervous jewish assistant to superstar lover with great humour and a voice to match. Joanna Riding as Maria almost steals the show with her facial expressions alone in the 'Penthouse scene'; Sophie-Louise Dann bring's the house down with her operatic 'audition' in Act II and Cassidy Janson creates the perfectly understated but hot-blooded 'daughter of the boss' just waiting for her chance. The chorus and orchestra are superb and the show deserves great success. ... Read more
