Weapons of Self-Destruction highlights Robin Williams’ trademark free associations and riffs on social and political absurdities. His high-energy and highly anticipated tour launched in the United States on September 25th in Minneapolis and will take Williams throughout North America by year’s end. Robin is performing just 2 nights in London as part of this tour.
Williams’ last American comedy tour was in 2002 when he returned to the stand-up scene after a sixteen year hiatus. That sold-out tour earned the distinction of being one of the highest-grossing comedy tours in history and culminated in a final performance filmed by HBO and broadcast live from New York City. The resulting July 2002 HBO broadcast, Robin Williams: Live on Broadway, was nominated for five Emmy® awards.
Williams said he was inspired to head back to the stage for only the second time in 20 years by George Bush. “It’s an election year, which is basically Christmas for stand-up comics.’’
“I figured I should get my arse on the road while the shrub [Bush] is still in office.’’
