Why See Labryinth?

Plays

The never-ending cycle of banking greed...

We are all aware of the 2008 global financial crisis that caused the collapse of banks in this country, and even the collapse of a country (Iceland), but what do we know of the ones that happened in the past? Fresh from wonder.land at the National Theatre, Beth Steel's startling new play examines the greed and risk-taking of the 1978 crash that effectively bankrupted Latin America for decades, through the eyes of a young Wall Street trader. A play to cause red faces in the City - prepare to enter the LABYRINTH.

Fresh out of college, we meet green Wall Street trader John Anderson, whose main job is to jet around the world selling loans to countries. Experiencing vast wealth and an enviable lifestyle, John is sucked into a world of shady deals, champagne lunches and fast cars.

However, when an economic bust hits Wall Street, the banks demand their loans be called in - and the countries can't pay. John and his friends then find themselves sucked into the chaos of a panicking financial sector, which their actions have helped cause. And it's not just banks collapsing...it's whole countries brought to their knees.A thrilling ride into the murky boardroom deals and broken promises that seems to happen again and again...and again.
