LaBute is writing some of the freshest and most illuminating American dialogue to be heard anywhere.
Ben Brantley, The New York Times
Two BBC stars, Warren Brown and Tom Burke, move to the Hampstead Theatre stage in Neil Labute's 2013 celebrated play. Described by New York's eminent theatre critic as the "most winning romantic comedy of the summer", the play revisits the four characters last seen in his previous work, Reasons To Be Pretty. Now older and licking their wounds from various failed relationships, each character now strives to find happiness in their lives - however, the tangled web threatens to raise its ugly head once again.
Unfinished business is the central theme in this play. Now three years older, we find that Steph and Greg have broken up; however Greg has now taken up with her best friend Carly, while Steph is stuck in a loveless marriage. Both are wondering if it is worth leaving their new loves to rekindle what they had. The stakes are upped when a fourth player on the scene returns - Carly's ex-husband, Kent. And after discovering her relationship with Greg, he wants her back even more.
Emotions run high as each character reveals their desires and motives, with confusion over feelings and semi-truths coming to the fore. As each connection between the four become an entangled web, their goal of happiness appears to move further and further away.
