"A chance to see a great actor like Mark Rylance cutting loose. A whimsical, ultimately resonant portrait of lost souls waiting to hook or be hooked."

Why See Nice Fish?

Mark Rylance returns to the West End

Two ice fisherman ponder life's big questions in this surreal play written by and starring Tony, Oscar and Olivier-winning Mark Rylance. Reprising the role of Ron alongside Jim Lichtscheidl as Erik, Rylance will once again prove his consummate talent on the London stage this winter, where some may argue the modern theatrical icon truly belongs.

A contemplative portrait of two ice fisherman waiting for one last catch of the season, Rylance co-authored the play alongside Duluth prose poet Louis Jenkins, whose poems make up the bulk of the abstract dialogue, while his wife Claire van Kampen directs this strictly limited run.

In a fishy twist, the show will be offering four free tickets per performance to any brave soul that comes dressed as a fisherman or fish, in a competition that will be judged nightly by the front of house staff. Best fishes to those competing!*

WHAT IS NICE FISH ABOUT?

The story centers on two ice fishermen awaiting the end of the season and one last bite. As they wait in the freezing weather, they meditate on a myriad of subjects, including life, watches and the difference between dogs and wolves...

What we thought

Superb QUIRKY clever

Nice Fish doesn’t always make sense, but then it doesn’t need to in order to work

Mark Rylance is entertaining as ever in Nice Fish, a loveable introduction to theatre of the absurd for those unfamiliar with the genre.
