Mr. Jacobson deserves praise for exposing an unhappy episode in the history of gay and privacy rights
The New York Times
A dark period for gay rights, 1914's Los Angeles saw the rise of entrapment tactics employed by police targeting homosexual men in public restrooms. This two-hander by Tom Jacobson is directed by Marylynne Anderson-Cooper and sees two actors taking on a full cast of roles that range between police officers and the vagrants they targeted for extra money as well as tabloid hacks and the lawyers having to defend the cases. Corruption, bribery and homophobia within the law gets a long awaited examination on stage.
Probably one of the most insidious forms of entrapment, undercover police officers were tasked as "vice specialists" to entice suspected gay men into lewd acts in public restrooms and bath-houses, in order to arrest, humiliate them and earn £15 per arrest, a hefty reward in those days. The most recent high-profile example of this type of entrapment was in 1998 when pop star George Michael was arrested in a Los Angeles park bathroom.
