THE OLIVIER AWARD WINNING COMEDY RETURNS

Theatre can often be the ultimate departure from reality as it conjures people, places and stories from thin air. Giles Havergal's masterful adaptation of Graham Greene's 1969 novel is a study in this suspension of disbelief. A mere four actors create a myriad people and locations, ranging from England to Paris, Istanbul and Buenos Aires to name a few. David Bamber, Gregory Gudgeon Jonathan Hyde and Ian Mitchell prove more than capable; also sharing the main role of Henry at different stages of his life.

Christopher Luscombe's revival of the Olivier award-winning show is lighthearted and cheekily buoyant - its set up and emphasis on comic timing places it in league with shows like The 49 Steps. A minimal stage design provides the perfect blank canvas for the cast's vivid story-telling and larger-than-life characters.

WHAT IS TRAVELS WITH MY AUNT ABOUT?

Henry Pulling, a retired bank manager content with a quiet life, is spirited away on a lifelong adventure after meeting his long-lost Aunt at his mother?s funeral. His inimitable Aunt Augusta is a 75-year old with a voracious appetite for excitement in all forms and a casual indifference to conventional morality.

Her devil-may-care attitude is the catalyst in Henry's struggle to let go of suburban safety, leading him to dive into the colourful unknown. The result is a hilarious cascade of stories and scenes, reminding the audience that a life of adventure is always better than a life of pedestrian drudgery.
