Alexander Zeldin once again tackles the issues of family in his new work

Why See Love?

Plays

Poverty and family are the cornerstones of this visceral new play by Alexander Zeldin, which examines the relationships between different people forced together in a cramped environment. Following in the footsteps of Ken Loach's unflinching dramatic movie I, Daniel Blake, Zeldin's new work also takes into account the fraught lives of those caught up in social poverty. At Christmas, Love follows three families of disparate people all forced together in temporary accommodation, with no privacy and possessions to call their own. A testament to the human spirit.

The different groups of people comprise a middle-aged man and his aging monther , a young family with another baby on the way and a recently arrived woman from Sudan. Together they must navigate Christmas together, their different attitudes towards each others' plights causing tension along the way. Zeldin's previous work includes the raw and unforgettable Beyond Caring, another examination into family relationships that is particularly relevant to our troubled times.
