This is bold, original, daring theatre that is unquestionably touched by greatness.

NEVERLAND MEETS WONDERLAND

The daring work of acclaimed playwright and screenwriter John Logan, Peter and Alice is the imagined outcome of a real-life, chance meeting of Alice Liddell Hargreaves and Peter Llewelyn Davies. Both found fame thrust upon them by the fictional protagonists of two children's classics, Alice was Lewis Carroll's inspiration for Alice, Peter was JM Barrie's for Peter Pan.

Starring Oscar-winning Judi Dench and highly accomplished Ben Whishaw, and directed by Michael Grandage, Peter and Alice is a startling play about love and loss, happiness and sorrow, aging and how our childhoods undeniably and unavoidably mould us.

WHAT IS PETER AND ALICE ABOUT?

Eighty year old Alice Liddell Hargreaves and Peter Llewelyn Davies, then thirty-five, meet in dusty old bookshop in 1932 at the opening of a Lewis Carroll exhibition. Both having suffered their share of emotional and psychological scarring, the pair gradually reveal their childhoods, past relationships and views on intimacies with the authors Carroll and Barrie. Past blurs into present, light into dark, reality into memory into fantasy, as we glimpse the lives of the 'real' Alice and Peter. What we see is life infallible, without the rose-tints and 'happily-ever-after's of fairytales and Hollywood movies.

DID YOU KNOW?

John Logan's screenplays include Any Given Sunday, Gladiator, Hugo, Sweeney Todd, The Aviator, and Bond number 23, and he has worked with some of the most auspicious directors in the Tinseltown, like Ridley Scott, Martin Scorsese and Sam Mendes.

It has not been long since Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw last played alongside each other. 2012's Skyfall (written by John Logan and directed by Sam Mendes) saw the pair playing M and Q in the 23 of the James Bond film series.
