Alan Ayckbourn returns this year with what may be playwright's most formidable and imaginative work, The Divide. Told over two parts, we're transported to an England, one hundred years hence, where a catastrophic plague has ravaged the population, leading to a forced segregation between the sexes.
Men wear white for purity, the women black for their unclean nature and society is watched constantly. This is the world that brother and sister Elihu and Soween have grown up in. But with darkness, there must always come light and when Elihu falls for the daughter of radicals, life changes for all of them. In a dystopian landscape Orwell would be proud of, love blooms, lives are at stake and revolution looms.
Fans of Ayckbourn will enjoy this epic new show that promises to show us a world that is not all that different from our own. A deliciously imagining warning that will resonate with every kind of audience.
