Mummenschanz - Musicians Of Silence

A new breed of silent theatre

Created over forty years ago, Mummenschanz has travelled the globe delivering its incredible and highly unique brand of mime performance to new audiences. Armed just with some innovative (and often out-of-the-box) props, the performers of Mummenschanz create highly entertaining skits, scenes and magic tricks that will thrill audiences of any age.

This off-beat theatre troupe brings to mime what Blue Man Group brought to percussion concerts, opening up a Pandora's Box of new ways to entertain audiences and create beautifylly expressive stories out of everyday objects. The group was founded in Switzerland in 1972 by three performers who spent three years experimenting and perfecting their art form. The present day troupe includes five actors and only one of the founding members.

Lighting and shadows also play an crucial role in bringing the creatures and creations of Mummenschanz to life, with many of their skits created by having the actors wear full-body black leotard, which make the props stand out and the actors appear almost invisible. One brilliant scene uses rolls of coloured toilet paper (yes, you heard right!) to create a humorous skit between two quirky characters.
