You can catch Romeo and Juliet at the Duke of Yorks Theatre, showing May 11 - August 3, 2024
Closed March 29, 2015
The highly anticipated new production from Sadlers' Wells
Move over, Baz Lurhmann, you're not the only one who can re-imagine Romeo and Juliet for the modern times! Adrienne Canterna and Bad Boys of Danace director Rasta Thomas have collaborated on a contemporary version of Shakespeare's greatest love story, complete with modern dance and audio-visual elements.
The tragic tale of the teenage star-crossed lovers is obviously the main focus of our storyline, but it will like nothing you've experienced before. The production is set against a backdrop of state of the art architectural light design and big screen video projections that will take you from the traditional 1600s to the 21st century, with a cocktail of dance from ballet to hip hop to acrobatics. All are combined with a radical mix of music from Vivaldi and Prokofiev to Jay Z, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and David Guetta. If you're a fan of contemporary dance rather than uber-classical ballet, this multi-sensory retelling is just the ticket. This production is set to become a leader in modern dance, so why not be one of the first to experience it?
