What comes to mind when you hear the word: Shoes? Richard Thomas and Stephen Mear have had a field answering this question in their witty new musical devoted to footwear. Stilleto's, platforms, hush puppies, doc martin's, loafers, moccasins, Doc Martin's, flip flop's, Ugg boots, trainers, flippers, kitten heels, wedges... it seems the only shoe banned from tapping it's toes on Peacock Theatre's stage was the infamous croc.

The show consists of 32 footwear inspired song and dance routines performed by a good looking cast well practiced in heels. While the multiplicity of shoes, costumes and props is impressive it's the staging & choreography that somehow manages to hold this chock-a-block show together. I found the routines stripped of props and flashy costumes to be the most successful as here the focus was on the movement of the dancers.

The rather peculiar Health and Safety number was one of my favorites. Singers in hard hats and white coats explain to dancers in crash helmets and canary yellow shoes how to walk in high heels. The hilarious number delivered by a ram and four woolly ewes (in an Australian accent of course) in Ugg boots is fabulous.

A colossal high heel shoe forms the centre piece of a deliciously gaudy set, functioning as a 'platform' from which a hilarious score is delivered. Video installation and animation add another layer to an already busy stage only to reiterate obvious connections. While some early numbers are crippled by cliche's the show luckily steers towards some refreshingly original content after interval.

If you have more than 50 pairs of shoes in your wardrobe then this lively and consciously naughty footwear spectacular was made for you!
