Bands as diverse as ABBA, The Beatles and Blondie have all seen jukebox musicals formed from their catalogue of hits and it was only a matter of time before the Spice Girls, the ubiquitous pop phenomenon of the 90's, had theirs turned into a musical. Directed by Judy Cramer, producer of the global smash hit Mamma Mia! and written by award-winning screenwriter and comedian Jennifer Saunders, Viva Forever! now makes its West End debut at the Piccadilly Theatre.
The Spice Girls are the most successful girl group of our times, having sold more than 75 million records world wide. Their fizzy, feisty pop takes centre stage in this production and it's a show that's just as bouncy and bubbly as the girls in their heyday. Hits including Wannabe, Spice Up Your Life and 2 Become 1 are performed by an all-singing, all-dancing cast; Hannah John Kamen shines in her West End debut as the titular Viva.
The show opens the day after Viva and her three best friends have successfully auditioned for a TV Talent competition. The band progresses to the final rounds of Starseekers, but Viva is singled out to continue as a solo act leaving her with a difficult decision to make; will she stay with her friends or pursue fame alone? This light-hearted story serves up plenty of laughs as well as touching moments.
