Call The Midwife star Helen George heads up this pre-West End tour of Patrick Marber's adaptation
Fresh from wrapping the upcoming fifth series of Call The Midwife, Helen George leads this touring revival of August Strindberg, adapted by Patrick Marber. Set in 1945 following the shock Labour victory over Winston Churchill, George plays an affluent young socialite who begins a torrid affair with her father's chauffeur. A tense three-hander, the action takes place in a country house kitchen and highlights the social disparity between the spoilt Miss Julie, and her lover, John.
Wandering bored into the servants' quarters at her father's palatial estate, Julie happens upon John, a handsome chauffeur, and his fiancee Christine, who happens to be the cook. After coyly teasing John despite Christine's presence, the mutual attraction explodes into a full-blown affair, which has consequences for the entire household.
The play is set for a possible West-End run later in 2016, also with George in the lead role. Ironically this will be her second time in the role, having performed as a drama student a few years ago!
Opening night: 11 July 2016
Suitable for ages 13+
