My Brilliant Friend: Part 1

My Brilliant Friend: Part 1 at Rose Theatre

Why see My Brilliant Friend: Part 1?

An ambitious world premiere adaptation of Elena Ferrante's epic

A world premiere production in two parts, Elena Ferrante's epic family saga set in post-war Naples, Italy makes its debut this year at the Rose Theatre in Kingston! Starring Niamh Cusack and Catherine McCormack, this stage adaptation by April de Angelis condenses Ferrante's four novels My Brilliant Friend, The Story of a New Name, Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay, and The Story of the Lost Child into two parts; you can see both parts on the same day, or choose to split up your viewing between different days! A definite must-see for friends and loved ones, this celebration of female friendship amidst harsh challenges has already captured the literary world.

Post-war Italy is not very well-documented in literary circles, hence the success of Ferrante's Friends anthology. A testament to the strength of female friendship amid political upheaval following Mussolini's crushing defeat at the end of World War II, family dramas, domestic violence, love affairs and flourishing new careers, this story tells of how two women, Elena and Lila remain bonded to each other throughout, no matter what life throws in their way.

Directed by National Theatre, The Young Vic and Glyndebourne regular Melly National Theatre, The Young Vic and Glyndebourne regular Melly Still , Part One covers the first two novels of the anthology, My Brilliant Friend and The Story of a New Name. To buy tickets for Part Two please click here.
