North West End
The true coming of age story by Andrea Dunbar returns to the Royal Court theatre this January. First staged at the Royal Court in 1982, Rita, Sue and Bob Too has become an important piece of work with giving a voice and opening up conservations of growing up.
The piece is a striking portrait of two girls caught between a merciless childhood and an unpromising future, both hungry for adult adventure. Rita and Sue are best friends and get a lift home from married man Bob after babysitting his kids. When Bob decides to take the scenic route and offer them a bit of "fun", they take the opportunity and the three start a fling they each think they control.
Rita, Sue and Bob too was was written by Dunbar when she was just 19. Living on a rough council estate at the time Dunbar gives this play a sense of authenticity and it was soon adapted into a film by Alan Clark.
