Cosi Fan Tutte

Cosi Fan Tutte at Royal Opera House

Why see Cosi Fan Tutte?

Mozart's Comic Classic

Exciting German director Jan Philipp Gloger makes his Royal Opera debut with his fresh take on Mozart and Da Ponte's comic masterpiece. The composer and librettist's third collaboration following Le nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, the work received a frosty reception when it debuted in 1790, due to its risque content, but has since been thoroughly reappraised. This playful and light production takes its inspiration from the opera's original alternative title: The School for Lovers.

Cosi Fan Tutte follows the hijinks of Ferrando and Guglielmo, two young men who test the fidelity of their fiancees by playing a cruel game and disguising themselves as one another in an attempt to seduce the other's fiance. Though their wager began as a joke, it soon turns sour as jealousy replaces jest.
