Classical & Opera

A TIMELESS LOVE STORY

The Royal take on the haunting myth of Orpheus and Eurydice in this this stunning new production, choreographed by Hofesh Shecter and directed by John Fulljames, with Juan Diego Florez in his stage debut. Created by Christoph Gluck, this adaptation originated from Berlioz' 1859 version of the tale, where Orpheus is given the option to end his suffering and rescue his wife from the underworld; provided he is able to control his emotions and keep his eyes from her before their return to earth...

A LOVER'S TRIUMPH: ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE, A SUMMARY

Orpheus mourns his recently departed wife Eurydice at her tomb, despairing at the thought of living without her. When Cupid offers him the chance to see her again, he accepts the quest, his heart full of a possible reunion. However, he must accept the terms of his task, when he rescues her, he is not to look upon her before they make their return. Orpheus stills his nerve and resolves to complete the journey, regardless of the implications.

With a dangerous journey to Elysium, the wrath of the Furies and one very confused lover, Orpheus and Eurydice is the perfect story for fans of opera, old and new.
