Bourne is back! This 2000 smash hit dance production is partly inspired by Bizet's opera Carmen (Carmen/Car Man, geddit?!) and set in a small midwestern Italian-American town called Harmony. However, the story is anything BUT harmonious! The action is set in the 1960s, with the action taking place over the course of nine months. The barracks make way for auto repair garages, the factory becomes a diner, and there's even a cabaret. This production is famed for the spectacularly hard dance sequences for the lead characters, which propels the story forward at breakneck speed.
Those familar with the opera will be able to translate the action easily over to this 1960s retooling. The original 19th Century Spanish cigarette factory becomes a run-down diner in small-town America, where the arrival of a handsome, rugged stranger sends the town into a sexual frenzy.Fuelled by these new feelings, the town's inhabitants whip themselves into a bacchanal of lust, greed and revenge, ultimately leading to tragedy.
