The Northern Ballet return with a sizzling new show
After the powerhouse that was 2016's South Bank Sky Arts Dance Award winner, 1984, Northern Ballet returns to London with their newest work, a dazzling telling of the life of the most famous lothario in history. The first full-length ballet from Kenneth Tindall, adapted from Ian Kelly's 2008 biography, you can expect plenty of passion, intrigue, and drama from this exciting world premiere production, unmasking the man behind the legend.
Set up in 1969 by Laverne Meya, Northern Ballet has evolved into one of the world's most sought after company, committed under current Artistic Director David Nixon to producing inventive new works and touring widely to bring ballet to all audiences.
A bastion of 18th-century decadence, Giacomo Casanova was born the poor son of actors in Venice in 1725. Quick witted and inquisitive he never let his humble beginnings stand in the way of his quest for pleasure and adventure, indeed his theatrical blood probably helped him as he went through his extraordinary life, careening around Europe, gambling, seducing, spying, breaking out of jail and generally causing scandal with his wild affairs. Although he had many careers, not least writing, the law and the military, he is remembered for his insatiable taste for the ladies and as a man who never let anything get in the way of the pursuit of leisure.
