MUSICAL THEATRE AT ITS VERY BEST!

What a glorious show. Simply amazing performances by a hugely talented cast. Although, understanably, Lesley Garrat had top billing Jeremiah James simply had me spellbound. Such an enormous talent; playing the role of Billy Bigelow. equally thrilling was the lovely Alexandra Silber as Julie Jordan. I am amazed that I appear to be the first person to write a review of this production as it received a standing ovation from most of a sadly depleted house. It really deserves to be nominated as the Best Musical of 2008. As for Adam Cooper's choreography...... simply breathtaking. Well done to a fabulous cast .. I WILL BE BACK !!!!

SUPERB SHOW

Lesley Garret was appearing the night I saw this excellent production. So were Jeremiah James and Alexandra Sibert. All three - indeed the whole cast - sang their hearts out. This was an emotional performance both in the acting and the spectating. This was a birthday present from my wife. I shan't forget it. The star rating when I viewed it just before making this entry, was 2.8. What a shame noisy audience members and the absence of a star have reduced the rating from its rightful high star rating. I could watch this again.

A BRILLIANT NIGHT. AGAIN!

I've seen this show a few times now at the Savoy, and would absolutely recommend it. Jeremiah James is perfect as Billy, and the entire company have been flawless each time I have seen the show. Granted, the venue isn't the nicest theatre in London, but the show more than makes up for this. See it! Enjoy it!

EXCELLENT CAST AND SHOW

I have seen the show 3 times and it gets better each time,i agree there are a couple of occasions where the dialogue drags plus the seats are uncomfortable.The excellent cast make up for this and bring the songs to life there are some talented people on that stage.

EXCELLENT

I went with a small group on Friday 13th February. Like the previous reviewers we were looking forward to hearing Lesley Garrett and we too were let down by her non-appearance. No mention was made before the performance started. Billy Bigelow was outstanding, and the rest of the cast, including the understudy for Nettie were all faultless, however I feel that when a star has been brought in to attract audiences and then does not show it will not attract audiences to repeat the experience. This has happened to my daughter 5 times in the last few years: if contracted to perform surely it should only be illness that causes a star to cancel. As these are not times when most of us are inclined to spend money on a chance West End producers would do well to consider when employing a "star".

DISAPPOINTED

My Christmas present from my husband was 2 tickets for the 10th January, 7.30 performance. I was so disappointed to find that Lesley Garrett was indisposed, it quite ruined the evening for me. The show was excellent and the rest of the cast very good but the essential element for me was missing, particulalry in the June is Bursting out all over scene. £60+ for each ticket is a lot of money, particularly when you add in train fares, a meal & drinks. The same thing happened to me when we went to see Sound of Music, No Lesley Garrett or Connie Fisher - the moral is, dont go to the theatre with me!

NOISY AUDIENCE AND LACKLUSTRE SHOW

Sat 28 Feb. Seats were so uncomfortable my back is still suffering. Audience, mostly foreigners, translating for each other throughout. Drinks allowed in auditorium, so constant aroma of alcohol all around and noise of sweet packets being opened and rummaged through completely spoilt the entire evening for us. The pace was agonisingly slow, especially gaps between dialogue Some awful American accents. Jigger's accent swung between transatlantic and the Bronx and the Starkeeper's was English with the odd American inflection. Alexandra Silber was lacklustre, espcially alongside Lauren Hood's lively west end debut. It might benefit from a larger stage and cast but certainly needs some life pumped into it. Lesley Garrett was the only thing that bought it to life with a wonderful "June is busting out all over" and a very moving "You'll Never Walk Alone". With so many other great shows in town, I wouldn't bother recommending this to anyone - especially those awful seats!
