Stage and screen star Robert Lindsay is perfectly cast in this unmissable musical, his comedic timing wonderfully in-tune with Rufus Hound's performance. The result is a comedic musical that has that key ingredient in bucketfuls - comedy.
I'm not just talking about the slap-stick, easy laughs type of comedy either (although there's a splash here and there). Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is a blissful combination of well-thought out jokes, clever culturally relevant remarks and the big-laugh earning scenes which are so brilliant you'll find yourself still chuckling the next day. One particularly memorable one involves a disturbing and thoroughly amusing musical number about scaring off an undesired admirer by pretending to have a dark family secret called Ruprecht, locked away in Robert Lindsay's basement.
The addition of a great cast of characters dressed in the finest attire the French Riviera has seen (and sets convincing enough to make you think that's where you in fact are, and not the rainy London!) ensured that Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was one of the most delightful, enjoyable shows I've seen in a long time and one I couldn't recommend enough to anyone in need of a good laugh.
