Stars, hide your fires. Let not light see my black and deep desires
Shakespeare's brutal and potent tragedy returns to the Globe this summer with Ray Fearon as the ambitious Scottish general Macbeth and Tara Fitzgerald as his conniving wife, Lady Macbeth. Visceral, with a supernatural element, The Scottish Play explores the all-consuming effect of power as the Macbeths desperately attempt to cling on to it, murder by soul-corroding murder.
After receiving a dark prophecy that he will one day be King from a group of witches, the brave general Macbeth becomes unwittingly obsessed with making it come to pass, drawing his willing wife with him into his terrible schemes. Ambitious and ruthless, the couple set about murdering just about everyone in their vicinity in order to take the throne. Once power is attained, they find that it is difficult to hold on to. Macbeth becomes ever more tyrannical, his wife descends into madness and as their unwavering want for glory grows, a bloody Civil War erupts, costing them a whole lot more than their sanity.
