Ute Lemper

ANGELS OVER BERLIN, PARIS AND THE WORLD
Why see Ute Lemper?
Ute Lemper returns to the UK at the Shaw Theatre with her new show “Angels Over Berlin, Paris and The World”.
“The journey starts in Berlin with my root repertoire of Weill, Brecht, the Kabarett Songs and a song cylcle in yiddish. It continues into the poetic and cinematic universe of the French chansons realistes by Piaf, Brel, Ferre. I am searching in the backstreets of those cities where ancient ghosts with new faces write poetry and songs between yesterday and tomorrow. It is a voyage through my own life and soul with my own tales captured in these stories and their music. It becomes a journey through the world, the memories, visions, angst and history . It is a search for the secret pathway between the cultures and between the times. And the key lies in the music.” Ute Lemper
Ute Lemper's performing career grows out of a passionate and enduring commitment to art, politics and history, and out of a contentious and complicated relationship with her homeland and its past. Her panache, versatility and sophisticated repertoire - including Berlin cabaret songs and the dark gems of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill - have led her to international acclaim as a recording artist, and in the theatre, cabaret and film worlds.
