British-Canadian writer and stand-up comedian Mae Martin has made a name for herself with her sharply incisive explorations of sex, gender and changing societal norms, all wrapped up in a rapid-fire wit that has won her multiple awards for stand up. Now she brings her brand new show Dope to London's Soho Theatre for a limited run this Autumn.
Part biography, part examination of the self in a general sense, Dope deftly combines comedy, opinion and enlightenment as Martin travels back to her younger years. In light of all of her obsessions, fandom and addictions, she poses the questions "who are we when we are not addicted?" and "why do we favour short term pleasure when there are inevitable consequences?".
