Ellis a notorious hostess in London's most elite clubs leaded a life which was plagued with a series of chaotic and short romances with some of the country's wealthiest men. Easter Sunday, 1955 Ruth Ellis shot her lover David Blakely dead outside the The Magdala pub in Hampstead. Giving herself up to the police immediately, Ellis was sentenced to death and was hung, the last to be in Great Britain, in the July of the same year.
