Long-listed for the Bruntwood prize for playwriting
The UK immigration system is put under the spotlight in this searing and incisive new play by Chris MAcDonald in his writing debut at the Southwark Playhouse. Very much a topical play for the day, this production takes apart an immigration system that has been described by politicos on all sides as "not fit for purpose".
The young and hard-partying Laurence holds down a job processing asylum claims, which he finds hard enough without suffering the after-effects of a heavy night out. However, nothing prepares him for the arrival of Natale Bamadi, a Ugandan gay rights activist, when her case is dropped on his desk.
With the 2015 General Election approaching, immigration is front and foremost a deal breaker for each of the contending parties. There will also be two post-show events accompanying the play.
Tuesday 2 September
Justice Minister Simon Hughes MP will join a panel including a journalist and a former asylum seeker to discuss the UK immigration system and their treatment of gay asylum seekers in a ?Question Time? style debate.
Tuesday 9 September
Writer Chris MacDonald, director Holly Race-Roughan and the show cast will talk about their production and answer questions about the show and the issues raised by it.
