The ENO presents an updated version of Leos Janacek's 1904 seminal opera, moving the action forward to the 20th-century Soviet Eastern Bloc. Familial honor is at stake, as a well-meaning woman takes terrible action to ensure her step-daughter's future. The composer wrote the opera as a tribute to his dead daughter. Jennifer Davis takes on the role of Jenufa, in her role debut.

The stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli's timelessly beautiful anime movie Spirited Away comes to the London Coliseum for its European premiere in 2024. Based loosely on themes from Japanese folklore, the original movie is arguably seen as director Hayao Miyazaki's seminal work, bringing the studio's jaw-droppingly captivating animated stories, full of intrigue and otherworldly charm, to a wider audience. With the roaringly successful 2022 stage adaptation of Ghibli's My Neighbour Totoro proving beyond any doubt that their enchanting tales can translate to the stage to thrilling effect, Spirited Away continues the studio's breaking of new ground at the theatre.

Located in St. Martin's Lane, the London Coliseum is one of the biggest family variety theatres in London. It was opened in 1904 and was designed by architect Frank Matcham with the intention of the venue being one of the finest music halls for entertainment. Until 1968, the venue was used for a range of events including film screenings, musical comedies, plays and variety shows. Sadler's Wells Opera Company (now the English National Opera) took over the venue in 1968, and along with the English National Ballet, the venue is used primarily for opera.
