Much as the name suggests, the focus of this world-renowned dance company pays tribute to the ancient folk dances of Mexico and the wider Mesoamerican culture that survived despite the efforts of the Conquistador invaders to wipe it out completely due to having "pagan roots". Founded in 1952 by the now late Amalia Hernandez, the company celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2012, and is now directed by her grandson Salvador Lopez, which has seen updated works enter the repetoire, without compromising the more historical works.
Ballet Folklorico have performed to rave reviews in more than 60 countries worldwide and are finally returning to London for the first time in over 20 years, for a limited run of just five performances. Marvel at the traditional costumes of the Mesoamerican period, remarkably recreated for the production, whilst a cast of over 40 dancers and a mariachi band take you on a trip through time, bringing this rich culture to life through dance.
