A compelling play that is set to disturb
With news stories emerging in recent years about the kidnapping horrors perpetuated by Josef Fritzl and Ariel Castro, this dark psychological play attempts to explore the motives behind the monsters.
Daniel Portman (Game Of Thrones) leads this thrilling two-hander play by Mark Healy, adapted from the same-named novel by John Fowles. Following the psychological struggles of lonely butterfly collector Frederick Clegg, he falls in love with a beautiful art student (played by Lily Loveless of Skins) and kidnaps her, holding her in the basement of a deserted mansion. Desperate for her to love him back, he resorts to more and more disturbing tactics to keep her.
An intense play taking place in the spooky Vaults Theatre near Waterloo, The Collector explores the mental turbulence, violence and fear that goes back and forth between the two characters. Will Miranda succeed in convincing him to let her go? Or will she remain a permanent part of his collection?
