Equal parts flourish and focus, it nails both Johnson’s blustery charm and the steely way he uses it
The Times
With the London Mayoral Election looming ahead, what better way to recognise - if not exactly celebrate - the sandy haired, divisive outgoing Boris Johnson, in a whip-smart two-hander that took the Edinburgh Fringe by storm last year. The biting comedy play is written by Tom Crawshaw, and performed by David Benson as Boris Johnson and joined by Alice McCarthy, with direction by Yaz Al-Shaater.
Boris Johnson, or BoJo as he has been re-christened by the press, has seen a career trajectory that has defied that of most politicians since William Gladstone. Ridiculed, vilified even, he has provided Londoners with plenty of mirth at his scruffiness and bumbling antics. David Benson stars as the politician and tv personality in the final weeks of his reign at London City Hall as he looks back on his colourful stint in office. Be prepared for Greek lectures, Boris bikes and wiff-waff in an uncannily accurate voice and mop-top blond wig.
