An uncompromising look into the lives of abuse victims.
A provocative new work transfers from Hampstead Theatre in 2016, with the sexual exploitation of children at the forefront. Following the story of vulnerable teenager Tia, this play is produced together with The Children’s Society, whose Seriously Awkward campaign has been instrumental in getting the crimes in Rotherham, Rochdale and Oxford recognised widely and urging the government to investigate.
Tia is a vulnerable teenage girl who hides away underneath a brittle, devil-may-care exterior. When she is befriended by an older man, she is surprised by his attention and grateful for the kindness he shows. But it soon becomes apparent that Tia is expected to give something back in return.
A hugely topical play for our times, Firebird is a wakeup call to alert us of possible abuse, as well as shining an important light onto the plight of victims.
