Why See The Sorrows of Satan?

PlaysMusicalsComedy Theatre

A comic look into theatrical hell!

A devilishly naughty musical makes its London premiere at the Actor's Centre, based on Marie Corelli's searingly funny bestseller that turns Faust into a comedy of manners! A meta-show within a show, we head back to 1924 London as we follow the trials of one Geoffrey Tempest, a penniless and failed playwright who finds himself thrown out of his accommodations! One last chance to redeem himself to his peers finds itself in a reading for his musical play, The Sorrows Of Satan (or more accurately, Geoffrey Tempest's Faust). However, his mysterious foreign patron suggests some major changes to the script, and Geoffrey must choose between money, and his artistic integrity.

The brainchild of Luke Bateman and Michael Conley, this hilarious musical play takes the legend of Faust and turns it on its head, lampooning the theatrical community and its myriad processes of staging a show. Will Geoffrey sell out to his financier? Will he get the love of his leading lady? Or will he choose to keep his play as written and face honest poverty?
