Opera news on the Opera Naples production of La Tradgedie de Carmen
Enjoy the mastery and passion of Georges Bizet's tour de force as revolutionised by Peter Brooks in 1981. Paired back to the very bare bones of the story, La Tragedie is an intimated chamber piece required four performers. Though this may seem small to the newcomer, Brook's vision means that the intensity of the story and the simmering score is drawn out further, creating a theatrical experience that is vivid, thrilling and unique from all other opera.

Carmen is a provocative Gyspy woman, whose short temper brings her to the attention of the kind and charismatic Don Jose, who falls head over heels in love with her. An intense tale of love found and ruthlessly taken, Carmen is an fierce and seductive piece, as lust and revenge go hand in hand making for a fiery finale.
