Disney's Frozen Postpones West End Run

The Broadway transfer aims to open as soon as possible!

Disney's Frozen has announced that they will be postponing their upcoming West End run until further notice, but with the aim to open as soon as possible. The news comes around the uncertainty of the UK's current lockdown.

The Broadway musical, which is based on the smash-hit animation, was scheduled to make its West End transfer in April at the newly refurbished Theatre Royal Drury Lane. However, due to the UK's current lockdown and the uncertainty as to when it will end, Frozen's production team has decided to postpone the show's opening until further notice, but with the aim to open as soon as feasibly possible!

Disney's Frozen: The Musical is directed by Michael Grandage, Choreographed by Rob Ashford and features a score by the film's songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez. Frozen also features scenic design by Christopher Oram.

The full cast for the West End run of Frozen was announced in the summer of 2020 and features Samantha Barks as Elsa and Stephanie McKeon as the leading sisters, Elsa and Anna. The principal cast is completed with Craig Gallivan as Olaf, Oliver Ormson as Hans, Obioma Ugoala as Kristoff, Richard Frame as Weselton and Ashley Birchall and Mikalya Jade alternating the role of Kristoff's faithful reindeer, Sven.

The full cast is rounded out with Jeremy Batt, Cameron Burt, Lauren Chia, Laura Emmitt, Hannah Fairclough, Danielle Fiamanya, Matt Gillett, Joe Griffiths-Brown, Emily Lane, Justin-Lee Jones, Jason Leigh Winter, Emily Mae, Jacob Maynard, Gabriel Mokake, Leisha Mollyneaux, Sarah O'Connor, Jemma Revell, Joshua St. Clair, Jacqui Sanchez, Jak Skelly, Jake Small, Isabel Snaas, Monica Swayne and Anna Woodside.

What is Frozen about?

Loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson's fairytale The Snow Queen, the story takes place in the Scandinavian surrounds of Arendelle, where two royal sisters, Elsa and Anna must grow up alone after losing their parents in a tragic sea accident.

Elsa, the elder of the two, must also contend with a secret - she has the power to create ice and snow with her bare hands, which she must keep secret, even from her sister, who nearly died whilst playing together as little girls. By contrast, Anna is a sunny, albeit naive young lady who yearns for the outside world, having been isolated from Elsa since the accident.

When Elsa comes of age, she must take the throne as Queen, and the kingdom is reopened for her coronation - just for one day. Anna meets a handsome and charming Prince called Hans, who she instantly wishes to marry, much to Elsa's consternation. When the argument inadvertently reveals Elsa's powers, she flees to the wild North Mountain to live out a life of solitude and freedom. But Anna must find her sister and bring her back (with the help of an ice-seller, his reindeer and a talking snowman); otherwise, the fate of Arendelle will be frozen forever and left to the mercy of a cruel power.
