Absolute must-see!
A show with buckets full of charisma and wit. Goldblum and Ruehl give an explosive performance. Fantastic.
Sooooooooooooooo Wet
what a great evening.... a well written play of its time (but still of the day) with great leads and fantastic support reality and humour combined - it was a great night
Never heard such loud and long applause
I went to this play because it was only a couple of blocks from the Strand Palace Hotel, my hotel but I am glad that I did. I have been recommending it ever since. I never laughed so hard. At the end of the play, the audience gave the loudest and longest applause I have ever heard and I was among them. The problems mentioned in a previous review must have been heeded and corrected because there were no sound problems at all and I wear a hearing aid. All of the acting was incredible and the plot so much fun. Don't miss this play even if you are more that a couple of blocks from the theatre.
Loved it!
Goldblum and Ruehl gave fantastic performances in Prisoner. They embodied Mel and Edna for the entire evening making you laugh while empathizing with their life experiences. This is a must see this summer.
Jeff Goldblum shines through
A story of loosing it and getting it back. How our perception of the "outer world" is made up of our current circumstances. Mel is labelled crazy and we surrender to the dead-end he's driven to along with him. While he gets declares as crazy, people surrounding him exhibit their awkward existences through projecting their frustrations on him and accepted as normal. Goldblum is very convincing as a depressed advertising executive. When he comes to the stage at the end of the play you finally meet the real actor with his charming, handsome smile. Lovely man.
Witty & clever
Just left the theater and having read some other reviews I was expecting to have been disappointed. True, Jeff does play a variation of himself. However, what's wrong that, especially when it works well in this Neil Simon play of how an ad exec deals with the loss of his job. Jeff & Mercedes are believable and witty in the main roles. The opening acts are peppered with some snappy one liners and comebacks. The overall pace of the play works well with the various acts broken up with a clever approach that still moves the story forward even while the actors aren't visible. So generally we were impressed and had a wonderful few hours being entertained. So don't believe the negative reviews, believe us do yourself a favour and go see the play.
