Through a Glass Darkly

Through a Glass Darkly at Almeida Theatre

Why see Through a Glass Darkly?

Karin is a young wife, an older sister and an only daughter. Her kaleidoscopic interior world is a constantly changing picture, where the boundaries between the everyday and the holy defy distinction.

Karins family have taken her on a recuperative holiday. On a bleakly beautiful island where their relationships become increasingly entangled, as the three most important men in her life prove increasingly incapable of helping to cure her, Karin decides to take control of her own destiny.

Haunting and sensual, Through a Glass Darkly is the iconic, Oscar-winning film by legendary Swedish director and screenwriter Ingmar Bergman. His other films include The Seventh Seal, Cries and Whispers and Fanny and Alexander; he was director of the Royal Dramatic Theatre in Stockholm from 1960 to 1966 and directed his last production there, Ibsens The Wild Duck in 2002 before his death in 2007.

This Almeida production is in association with Andrew Higgie and Back Row Productions.
