Love Story

Love Story at Duchess Theatre

Why see Love Story?

Inspired by Erich Segal’s best-selling iconic novel, this is a brand new musical version of Love Story, also one of the most romantic films of all time.

Oliver Barrett IV went to Harvard and Jenny Cavilleri to Radcliffe. He was rich, she was poor. He was sporty, she played music. But they fell in love. This is their story.

Their romance is as poignant as it is enriching, as sweet as it is intense. Love Story will win your heart. And it might just break it.

Love Story: tender and uplifting.. this is a 'must-see'!

From the moment the lights went up on stage, I knew I was about to experience something really quite special. There was an exquisite innocence and intimacy in the simple staging of Love Story, with the small group of instrumentalists acting as a backdrop, and the opening music number setting the emotional pitch for the evening to come. This is no grandiose 'spectacular' - but instead intelligent, intimate and genuinely tender: an ultimately uplifting story of an ordinary couple whose love is extraordinary - and elevated to quite another plane through the music of gifted composer Howard Goodall. Endless undulating melody carried the narrative forward and captured the hearts and focus of its audience: there wasn't a dry eye in the house by the end, and the standing ovation said it all. This is a musical with something for everyone - the honesty and immediacy of the characters enables you, young or old, to relate to, and be moved by, their stories. I can't recommend it highly enough! ... Read more

Love Story: musical theatre at its most intimate and best

If you like technical wizardry, glitz, glamour and brash over-statement, this show is not for you. But if you love memorable tunes, great performances and true emotion, then musical theatre doesn't come better. It all works beautifully because of the scale and intimacy. I loved this show. ...
